I remember when Chipotle launched their Sofrita. The reactions of the veggie community was overwhelming! Then White Castle Launched their veggie burger. I’m not sure how many they are selling but I do know that is the most searched article on our website.
Now one of the BIG 3 fast food burger joints is launching a vegan burger and it looks epic! Of course anytime a chain restaurant does something vegan all of us have questi0ns we want answered immediately. Is it really vegan? If it’s not, is there a way it can be ordered where it is vegan? And will it be prepared separately from the meat burgers you cook all day?
The answer to all of those questions is yes! It can be ordered completely vegan and it’s cooked in it’s own oven far away from the meat. If you haven’t heard by now, Wendy’s is the restaurant launching a vegan burger and it really does look to be epic! What is it, how is it made and where/where can you get it? All of your questions about the Wendy’s vegan burger are answered on the next page.
Wendy’s Vegan Black Bean Burger

The name of the burger pretty much gives away what the patty is made of. Wendy’s says the black bean patty is 100% vegan. When asked if it would be cooked in the same place as their meat burgers the answer was now. The Wendy’s vegan burger is cooked in it’s own oven in the kitchen, separate from everything else.
According to the Columbus Dispatch, “It comes on a multigrain bun with pepperjack cheese, asiago ranch sauce, tomato, red onion and spring-mix greens, according to the menu description.”
Obviously to make it vegan you would have to order it without the cheese and ranch sauce. But given that there currently aren’t any vegan options for burgers in major fast food chains this would be a step in the right direction. Why do I say “would be?”
Right now Wendy’s is just testing this new vegan burger at a couple of restaurants in Columbus Ohio. It does seem like their small test is a hit so far so it certainly could go nationwide. According to a reporter for the Columbus Underground the burger is quite tasty:
It’s good, with occasional soft chunks of whole black beans, diced carrot and corn. The veggie burger’s not going to fool or convert beef fans. Although brownish, the patty isn’t trying to do a meat impersonation: it’s starchy and beany.
Anyway, what’s not to like? It’s a bean burger. It’s pleasant and savory; and overall not as heavy as a beef burger, even with the ranch.
So how do you help get this burger nationwide? Stevo from “Jackass” fame has started a petition you can sign here.
