One the easiest things to transition from as a vegan for me was milk. I never really liked milk all that much anyway. And the first time I tried almond milk I was hooked. I thought it actually tasted better than dairy milk and I was mad I had never tried it before.

I still see a lot of bloggers online questioning if almond milk is ok to drink. Some say it isn’t a whole food because it is processed. And that is true but I think it’s irrelevant. A lot of great foods are processed. Anything you juice or blend is processed. What’s the big deal?

I decided it was time to not only defend almond milk, but to sing it’s praises. Not only should vegans fall in love with this delicious non-dairy milk, but even omnivores should as well. It taste better and it is a lot healthier for you. So what’s so amazing about almond milk? I’ve got a list of 5 things and I bet at least 2 of them surprise you!

Milk for bones? Nonsense! Drink Almond Milk!

Almond milk offers 30 percent of the recommended daily amount of calcium, as well as 25 percent of the recommended amount of vitamin D, reducing your risk for arthritis and osteoporosis and improving your immune function. Plus, these two nutrients work together to provide healthy bones and teeth formation.

For beautiful healthy skin

Almond milk contains 50 percent of the recommended daily amount of vitamin E, which contains antioxidant properties essential to your skin’s health, such as protecting it against sun damage.

Doesn’t affect Blood Sugar

Almond milk is low in carbs, which means it won’t significantly increase your blood sugar levels, reducing your risk for diabetes. Because of its low glycemic index, your body will use the carbs as energy so the sugars aren’t stored as fat.

Doesn’t require refrigeration

While this mainly applies to homemade almond milk, it’s important to consider. Knowing that you don’t have to refrigerate almond milk means you’ll be more likely to take it with you to work, or on a camping trip. It’s perfectly fine at room temperature which makes it a convenient, nutritious staple to pack, automatically upping your daily intake of all the fabulous nutrients above.
